Biography
Gregory
James Gross was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. His
early musical influences were varied, spanning from the traditional
accordian to the roots of Chicago blues, jazz, and rock. Greg started
working professionally at the age of 16, playing piano, organ, and
synthesizer in various bands throughout the Chicago area.
Greg's interest in classical music led him to
the Chicago Conservatory of Music where he won a scholorship in
composition. While enrolled there Greg studied orchestration, composition,
and classical piano with Louis LaPorta, Tex Richardson, and Amelia
Rechnia. He went on to graduate cum laude with a bachelors degree
in Music Composition.
Greg's post-graduate studies included jazz composition
and piano at the American Conservatory of Music with Willie Pickens
and jazz theory at DePaul University.
After his studies at music school, Greg decided
to see the planet. He took two years to travel alone around the
world, going overland from London to India, then on thru Nepal,
Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, and back to the States. The music,
along with the different cultures he saw and heard, enriched him
as much as all of the time he spent in school.
After his travels, Greg moved to Los Angeles, where he began
to use these different influences composing music for Dance, Film,
Television, and Theater projects.
Always interested in the music of the world, Greg
loves to use different textures and styles to capture the right
mood for any given piece of music he works on.
Greg has scored feature films for both television
and theatrical release, including work for The Triple Crown of Surfing,
Deathrow Gameshow, An Early Grave, and The Twin. He has written
music for animated films such as the D.A.R.E. program sponsored
by the National School Foundation. He has done theater work as a
Musical Director, a composer, and has also co-written all of the
songs for the musical comedy, Nudist Colony of the Dead.
As a songwriter, Greg has signed a publishing
deal with Meisel Music and PolyGram International. He has written featured songs
and theme songs for both Film and Television in the USA and Germany. Greg has also produced
and released two CD's; Two Worlds Apart and Turn Of The Century,
with his group "Earth To Earth" on 9th House Records.
Along with this work, Greg has composed and arranged music for both
Radio and Television commercials in the US and Canada.
As a Keyboardist, Greg has done extensive live
work touring throughout the USA, Japan, and Europe. He has also
played on many recording sessions, doing keyboard and solo piano
work for Record, Film, and Television dates.
